Food is definitely part of my love of Ubud. Not only does it take me on a rewarding inner journey and love of life, but also a sensual feast experience with a plethora of fresh healthy cafes rich in nourishing, satisfying ingredients. Let me share with you my top 7 favourite gems to tempt the kindred traveller within...
Bali is a unique and uplifting tangible experience for all the senses. From the aroma of flowers and incense, to the sounds of roosters, crickets, frogs and birds; of motor bikes, car horns and friendly Balinese greetings.
From the warm summer air and uplifting happy energy you can almost touch; to the soothing hands of Traditional Balinese massages and body rejuvenating energetic healings.
A visual feast of colorful Hindu offerings, vibrant flora, arts and crafts, ceremonial outfits and temple decoration awaken and uplift; topped off with beautiful happy genuine smiles.
It is also the connection to source, a spiritual awakening where daily blessings and gratitude release our inner chatter and struggle and allow a surrendering to what is. Of true spiritual guides and teachers, helping you clear the fog of your mind and find your purpose and peace.
Ubud is a place where the present is enjoyed, seeing life not as something to accomplish but a series of beautiful moments in the continuum of past present and future into one. And if you tune in, you feel, understand and appreciate that each moment is an opportunity to experience unconditional happiness.
The Sensual indulgence that is Ubud Bali, cannot be complete however without experiencing the tantalizing tastes from a plethora of fresh healthy cafes too fuel, nourish and heal.
I love food and so I find discovering places to satisfy my passion for healthy, taste sensations is a journey both at home and on holiday. I am a lover of healthy, fresh wholefood ingredients and especially where the choice and creativity of menus are part of that experience.
I find Google has connected me with many kindred spirits recommending favorite eateries or quite often I stumble on the best finds out of pure Devine guidance. I know the challenge it can be to find these hidden gems, specially if One is too busy lying in the sun or trying out a new adventure activity, so here is a few of my favorite healthy café spots.
Go seek and indulge your taste buds dear friends….
Alchemy is definitely one of my dear favorites. Urban, chic, with a fresh healthy vibe. 100% raw, vegan café and juice bar, health food store and holistic clinic. I love the salad bar to choose your own adventure of ingredients, and linger over the smoothie menu for the perfect taste sensation liquid treat. I think it is the raw desserts though that kept me coming back for more, day after day. OMG YUM. Not just a taste tantalizing experience, though, I am drawn to their beautiful gift shop of jewelry, books, CDs, instruments, ethically made products and healthy supplements. My little bit of sensual heaven. @ Jalan Penestananan Kelod No. 75 Ubud. Website: alchemybali.com
Elephant Café is your true hidden gem. You could easily miss it, if not looking out for it along Jalan Campuhan, Ubud Gianyar. Down a beautiful cobbled driveway off the main drag, you find the Hotel Taman Indrakila. The adjoining restaurant, the Elephant café is a vegetarian lover’s paradise (they also do Vegan and gluten free and each morsel is a taste delight). Enjoy the lounge area and look out over the open verandah view to the beautiful Tjampuhan Ridge walk of rice fields, avocado and coconut trees. In the one sitting I enjoyed watching a cooling rain shower followed by the warming sun glisten off the newly wet flora. It’s a feast for all the senses at Elephant Café; and another of my frequent stops to refuel and relax.
Three Monkeys draws you in away from the hussle of Jalan Monkey Forest and out the back where you could be in your own temple and rice field. The menu is fresh and clean and presented beautifully. Eating on my own, I was given a quaint little table overlooking a delightful fish pond to enjoy my deconstructed Mexican-like taccos. The word has got around because it is very popular, but worth the rave, I think.
Spice is a modern Indonesian menu with crisp, clean, trendy décor and food presentation. My eye was drawn to the beautiful wood furnisings and the wine bottle chandelier. The dish was a spice- tantalizing journey for my taste buds. Found near Ubud Palace on Jalan Raya Ubud.
Kafa was a gem I found whilst perusing the plethora of boutique shops along Jalan Hanoman. With comfortable cushion booth style seating, and books to borrow to read; the healthy fresh menu options were endless. I feel I have to keep coming back to try them all and relax making the most of the scene. @ Jalan Hanoman No. 44B, Padangtegal, Ubud
Atman Kafe is a small raw food café with smoothie and salads and raw treats galore. The challenge is deciding what to order, and not go overboard on the treats. Good reason to come back though! Visit for a meal or for that mid meal pick me up @ Jalan Hanoman no 38, Ubud
Taco Casa has some beautiful fresh vegetarian tasty options. Found down past Yoga Barn and they even delivered to my villa. My favourite was the Fiesta Salad, although I had food envy with my friend’s Edible crispy Tacco Bowl. @ Jalan Raya Pengosekan, Ubud Jalan Raya Pengosekan, Ubud website: http://www.tacocasabali.com
